Chris Vanhaverbeke began his musical journey playing
in folk and rockbands performing covers and originals.
When he decided to take his guitar playing to
a higher level he took Jazz lessons with Rob Campbell
before moving on to Classical guitar. Chris studied
Classical guitar with the world-renowned teacher
Eli Kasner and one of Canada's top recitalists
Jeffrey McFadden. His Education is extensive,
including an Honours degree in Fine Arts from
York University with a focus on Music Education
and his Guitar Teacher's A.R.C.T (Associate of
the Royal Conservatory). The year Chris achieved
his A.R.C.T. (2001) he was one of only two graduates
across Canada to achieve this level in Classical
Guitar.
Chris
is now a full-time guitar teacher and professional
musician. He has been teaching guitar since 1994.
Chris has had success teaching all age groups
and many styles of guitar playing. Patience is
one of the qualities that make him a great teacher.
Each lesson is geared toward the individual's
needs and interests. Some students need a clear
structure and are interested in learning all aspects
of music including theory, history and harmony.
Other students take lessons strictly for short-term
enjoyment and want to play songs as quickly as
possible. Chris is sensitive to each student's
needs and goals.
Chris
is continually upgrading his knowledge, skill
and teaching craft with master classes, seminars
and independent study. He is also a member of
ORMTA (Ontario Registered Music Teachers Association).
